You've passed the test and now it's time to get behind the wheel. Besides friends and family, there are a lot of resources you can access to help you learn to drive and get your licence.
P.S. Don't forget - there's no substitute for getting the odd professional lesson to make sure you're not picking up someone else's bad habits.
Practice makes perfect! The best way to become a safe and responsible driver is to practice. Now you've got your L-plates, you have to complete and record 100 hours of supervised practical driving experience over the course of 12 months before you can take your practical driving test.
This 100 hours has to be logged in an official learner logbook and submitted to the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
free2go has developed an online resource specifically for you and your supervisor (Mum, Dad, Auntie, or big brother) to go through the steps of learning to drive and logging your hours at Learn2go.
The Learn2go website features:
Here's a sample of the practical skills videos.
When choosing a driving instructor and checking prices, don't assume cheapest is the best. It's a good idea to also check the instructor's licence and credentials.
keys2drive is a new government initiative that provides Learners and their Supervisors with 1 free driving session throughout Queensland. To find out more about this offer visit www.Keys2drive.com.au.
RACQ Approved Driving Schools abide by our Code of Practice and personal commitment to service.
Lessons with an accredited driving instructor will reduce your 100 hours logbook requirement. A one-hour lesson with the instructor will count towards three hours in your learner logbook (up to a maximum of 30 hours, 10 x one-hour sessions).
The Driver Education Program is a full day course for licenced drivers. It focuses on building effective driving techniques to help you drive more safely in everyday situations.
The course is of particular benefit to parents of learner drivers. Refresh your own knowledge and skills and have confidence in your ability to advise and instruct learner drivers.
The course combines classroom theory and on-road practice and includes two, in-car driving sessions.
The in-car sessions assess a driver's current strengths and weaknesses, and explain, demonstrate and coach the driver in correct techniques and routines.
The courses use one driving coach per three participants to maximise valuable in-car training time.
Courses can be readily tailored to suit individual clients' specific requirements.
A detailed written report is provided for each participant.
You'll also receive a free comprehensive road safety workbook.
