Steps for Getting Your P1 Licence

To apply for your Class C P1 provisional licence in Queensland, you must be at least 17 years of age and hold or have held a Learner Licence for at least one year.

Step 1 -
Complete Your Learner Logbook
Complete and record 100 hours of supervised driving practice (including 10 hours of night driving).  Once you have done this, you need to submit your logbook to the Department of Transport and Main Roads via Australia Post for assessment and verification.  They will advise you of the result by mail.  You need to receive formal advice that your logbook has been verified before you can take the practical test.
Step 2 -
Book the Practical Driving Test
To get your Ps you have to complete a practical driving test (fee applicable).  You can either book and pay for the test online or at a Department of Transport and Main Roads customer service center.  Make sure you do this ahead of time.
Step 3 -
Get Organised
You will need to provide a registered vehicle for the test.  Arrange to borrow someone’s car if you don’t have one and be sure it’s a vehicle that you’re already familiar with.  Make sure this also has L plates on it.  You will also need to take your current learner licence to the test and a completed Driver Licence Application / Renewal Form (F3000).
Step 4 -
Take the Test
Show up for your practical test AT LEAST 10 MINUTES EARLY.  The test will then take around 35 minutes and will involve a series of driving tasks.
Step 5 -
Turn Your Plates Over!
Once you’ve got your licence, change your plates over to display the red P plates prior to driving away from the test location.  P1 licence holders must have P plates on the front and rear of their car or face a $160 fine and 2 licence demerit points.

Steps for Getting Your P2 Licence

To apply for your Class C P2 provisional licence in Queensland, you must have held your P1 provisional licence for a minimum of 12 months.

Step 1 -
Take the Hazard Perception Test
The Department of Transport and Main Roads will advise you when it’s time to take your Hazard Perception Test through a letter with all the details.The Hazard Perception Test is only available online and you will be required to pay a fee once you pass. You can access the test via the Department of Transport and Main Roads website.  It will take approximately 45 minutes to complete.
Step 2 -
Apply
Once you have successfully completed the test, you will need to apply for your P2 upgraded licence.  Complete the Driver Licence / Application Renewal Form (F3000) and take this to a Department of Transport and Main Roads customer service centre, along with your existing P1 licence.You will receive a P2 provisional licence handbook with all the conditions and restrictions associated with having your green Ps.
Step 3 -
Get Your Green P Plates
Once you’ve had your licence upgraded, go to the nearest RACQ store to get your free set of Green P2 Plates!
